Positive impact on the social landscape
Kittitian Hill will positively interact with the surrounding communities through initiatives that seek to reduce the way in which tourism impacts the society.
Not an “All-inclusive” resort; moving away from the prevalent gated or all-inclusive resort models and creating a resort with no gates or fences with, at its core, a village that encourages interaction between resort guests and the wider Kittitian community.
Architecture; our architectural team has studied the vernacular architectural style of St. Kitts & Nevis and all our buildings are designed to look and integrate into the landscape and society, like traditional buildings.
Resort; Sedona Resorts, our resort management partners, has re-examined traditional hotel operations;
• The staff cafeteria will be made into a local restaurant within the village, open to the staff, guests and the public, and encouraging genuine interaction.
• One of the hotel bars will be a traditional rum shop, located in the village and operated by a local proprietor.
• The village crèche will be open to guest and staff children alike.
• Saturday farmer’s market will allow direct trading between guests and local farmers, as part of SlowFood’s Earth Market network.
Destination Spa; will offer treatments drawn from the medicines of the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, providing an opportunity for ethno-botanical research and the establishment of fair-trade partnerships for herbs and medicinal plants.
Staff Accommodation; will be developed through a renovation program of abandoned cottages within nearby villages. They will be leased from the owners, creating an asset and providing income, whilst allowing the integration of any non-local staff into the communities.
Nutrition; in close association with the Culinary Arts and Edible Landscapes programs, this program will seek to educate interested local community members out of redundant energy-rich nutrient-poor ‘Plantation’ and ‘Standard American’ diets and into nutrient-dense and lifestyle-appropriate eating habits.
